I think we need to support our government in tracking down and dismantling these terrorist organizations, regardless of our assessments of America?s moral footing. I don?t see the nation?s leaders as merely catering to the baser demands of the citizens. They are much more professional people than that (and as a matter of fact, I didn?t vote for Bush). Going after these terrorists is something that has to be done, for our sake and for the world?s. It?s simply the only way to prevent more of these mass murders, which will continue if we do nothing.

We need to stop viewing these terrorists as or Muslims or Arabs or other groups that have legitimate problems with US policies. They are a criminal element that is using these complaints to justify their evil deeds. You can coddle them and call them human beings all you want, but the fact is they won?t give you the same courtesy. They say they do what they do in the name of Allah and Islam, but they are going against everything Islam stands for. They are equivalent to white supremists who call themselves Christians, except they are rich and organized. They don?t represent the countries or groups they claim they do, and if you take a look at the posts at boards like http://www.cnn.com/COMMUNITY/ you?ll see several people from Middle-Eastern countries denouncing these attacks.

quote:
"I am verrrrrrrrrrrry sad and angry for the wild act which happened in America. All the Arabs sad and disagree in this wild and non-human act. We love the life and love it for others too. My heart is very sad for what happen and if the attackers are Arabs or Muslims, we hate them and we declare now, [they] became not Arab, not Muslim, not human too."

I know this post is going to piss some of you off, but that?s how I see things.

Well I'm alright with that (aside from the 'I didn't vote for Bush' thing - what's that got to do with anything?). Terrorists are criminals. Celebrating innocent people dying or in pain is wrong, no matter how you look at it.

This isn't an attack agaisnt you Fasheem. Just question, I have been watching the coverage but with so many channels it is hard to keep track of. Did I miss something?

The last I knew America's policy was not to get involved in affairs of the Middle East and the Terrorist attacks. So basically we have ignored the problem, until sadly it hit us. Now the policy will obviously change.

But to say someone doesn't want to be a terrorist is not really accurate. People choose every day to be continue to be a part of hate-groups. These terrorist are just another form, deadly but another form. It's hard to say exactly what their cause is.

I thank you all for your compassion and understanding during this time of tragedy. I am pleasantly surprised as to just how rational all of you are, and I thank you for being as people should be. I have only edited one post so far, and I felt that this particular instance could not be avoided. Although the poster had called for understanding and peace among Americans in an earlier post they inexplicably called for us to kill everyone in the Arab world, or so it seemed. I edited that post in the name of tolerance, understanding, and being informed about the situation as it stands now. If you have any questions about the attacks that you would like answered, I have spent much of my life trying to get to the deeper truths of what is going on in the world, and I may be able to answer them for you. Please, just ask.

I was afraid people would pigeon-hole me into some political stereotype because I'm speaking positively about the current administration. Doing this has appeared to be a faux pas in the comics community these last couple of months, what with the "Dubya" jokes and charactures of him in some comics titles. I guess I just forgot that this message board has better people here who won't judge me like that. Sorry if I've offended.

I think because we have friendly diplomatic relations with Isreal, we are perceeved as oppressing Isreal's enemies. I myself have mixed feelings about Isreal. It seems to me they invaded that area and forcifully displaced the people living there. In spite of that, the terrorism the Palistians have resorted to wipe out any sympathy I would otherwise have for them.

Like Spatula Gal said, Israel basically moved in on Arab territory. If I'm remembering correctly from history class last year, they did so because they got a letter from some British guy suggesting that Britain was giving them the land. America has given its full support to Israel which includes supplying weapons.

Well, Spatch, you're kinda half right. The US is FAAAAR from being uninvolved in the Middle East. We've got out fingers in every pie over there, because we've got financial interest in most coutnries.

The Israel situation is unfortunate. It's really not one I want to take sides on because it's so complicated. Neither side is really right, and neither side is very wrong.

The story of Israel goes somethng like this: A reeeeally long time ago the Arabs forced the Jews out of Israel and formed Palestine. For more than a thousand years, Palestine was essentially its own nation. (I don't think the western world ever "recognized" Palestine as a nation, but that really doesn't mean much.) It was an Arab nation.
After WWII there were an incredible number of Jewish refugees that the Aliies were forced to deal with. One of the main reasons Israel is where it is today is because everyone refused to take the refugees. Essentially, the US didn't want them here, so, with the help of Britain, we created a country. They had occupied it nearly 2000 years ago, that makes it theirs, right? rolleyes So we took it from the Palestinians, put all the refugees there, called it a new country, and have been supporting the Israelis in the non-stop war that has been going on ever since. They clearly have good reason to hate us, since we are essentially funding and backing a nation of terrorists.

Also, another example of our "non-involvement" in the Middle East is the Gulf War. Sure, the official reason for the war was to "liberate Kuwait". The public was fed the por-freedom porpaganda. "We're fighting Desert Storm to show that it's not allright to take over other countries! We're fighting for freedom and liberty!" If you turn on the truth translator it actually comes out something like "We're fighting for cheap oil! We've got too many financial interests in Kuwait whose prices will climb if Iraq takes over!" Wanna know something funny? We were "fighting for Kuwaiti freedom, for their liberty, to protect democracy" but no one ever mentioned that Kuwait is an oligarcy. That's HARDLY democracy.

I'm not sure what we did to Bin Laden directly, but he sees all of this and gets really really pissed. I think we may have helped get him exiled (he's actually from Saudi Arabia, which was an ally during the Gulf War). Basically, he's a billionaire with a huge grudge against the US.

All this garbage about the attack being "an attack on freedom and an attack on democracy" is basically bullsh*t. It's all nice to try to unite Americans, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with loving your country, but you have to look and learn for yourself, and not necessarily believe everything you're told.

"An attack on freedom" implies that these people want to take over. It implies that they carried this attack out in order to begin conquering us. Very much not the truth. They carried out this attack to strike at our policies that enable us to continue what we've been doing in the Middle East and around the world. It was certainly not the best way to do it, but it tried to get the point across. But, like all messages that are not completely and clearly stated, it's been twisted around, and it seems like a whole lot of Americans actually believe that it was an attempt to take over America. rolleyes

No, no, Spatula gal - you did not offend me. Not at all. I cannot say the same for that John Clark guy, however...Reminds me of the Punisher or something (the only hero I severely dislike). Do any of you like the Punisher? I mean - he just goes around shooting and mutilating everybody - even if they're just common thieves or working for some bad guy. It's not justice in my eyes, and I don't think he should be a hero. Sorry...a little off-subject there. I guess my point is that we should focus on saving lives more than meting out random vengence. If taking out some terrorists means saving the lives of future victims, take 'em down by all means, but to persecute people who are not killers and who do not deserve to die is wrong.

My first wish when I saw the the attack was that Superman was real. That superheroes were real. I wanted a Green lantern ring to hold up the buildings, extinguish the flames, to save the lives. Then the real heroes entered to do the same thing armed with nothing but ventelators, axes, and water. Over three hundred of them died saving lives, countless hundreds more are working to remove the bodies, and pieces, from the ruble. We do not need superheroes when we have men and women like these, and the men and women who are going to give their lives to prevent even more of our heroes from being killed. [edited]

I felt I was forced to edit this post. The opinion was a valid one, but I do not encourage intolerance or ignorance of any kind on this board and I do not wish to have any display or encouragement of predjudice here. I'm sorry that I did this, but any post with the phrase "Kill them all" in it HAS to be edited, IMO.
